What is the recent activity on the 17th Street Canal?

Information received via email from Frederick Young, Army Corps of Engineers, on Monday, April 17:

At the present moment, we are performing surveys to determine the
Orleans Levee District (OLD) Rights-of-Way (ROW) on the Outfall Canals and where
the actual levees (Crown and Toe) fall in relationship to the OLD ROW.

Expropriation of property is presently not on the table, but, tree
cutting activity within the OLD ROW and Outfall Canal levee sections may come
in the very near future, before the hurricane season.

Things are moving fast but no one will be affected without
notification. The notification issues and methods are still being resolved within USACE.

Within the next week we plan on starting to removing trees, bushes and
debris from the interior of the outfall canals.
