Lakewood North and South
How We Will Move Forward After Hurricane Katrina
October 27, 2005
Four hundred flooded houses and displaced families. Thousands of questions with no easy answers. Little clarity as to who can give us definitive answers and when we will get them. How can we move forward?
Four hundred homeowners can each attempt to get answers individually. Or, we can divide responsibilities, focus our efforts, and share what we learn for the benefit of all.
The first post-Katrina LPOA meeting was held on October 26. Those in attendance agreed that dividing responsibilities and sharing information was a far better way.
OUR APPROACH:
Form small teams, each focusing on a particular need (e.g., getting utilities restored, finding good contractors, getting flood insurance claims paid, maintaining the quality and character of Lakewood). To see the current teams, click here.
Teams are staffed by volunteers. We need you. To volunteer, email ssmolkin@yahoo.com.
Each team takes responsibility for trying to get its questions answered on behalf of Lakewood residents. To send a question to one of the teams, address it to lakewoodnscontact@yahoo.com. It will be forwarded to the team. Be sure to put your topic in the subject line, so we know how to forward.
Homeowners who volunteer for a team get first priority from other teams.
We will meet frequently (currently, every other week) to share information. To see the meeting schedule and locations, click here.
We will post useful information on our web site. To see information currently posted, click here.
